Varujan Boghosian (b. 1926)
Born in New Britain, Connecticut Varujan Boghosian is known for his sculpture and assemblages. In addition to his artistic activities, he worked as a professor at the University of Florida, the Cooper Union, the Pratt Institute, the Brown University and the Dartmouth College since 1958. His art is inspired by literature, art, history, music, poetry and mythology. For instance, he has visited the subject of ‘Orpheus and Eurydice’ several times. As well, symbols such as swans and snakes appear repeatedly in his oeuvre. Boghosian’s works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago, amongst others. In addition, they can be found in numerous public collections, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. (cko)
