Black painted wood and lead
Nunzio di Stefano (b. 1954) – Italian sculptor
Signed ‘Nunzio’, dated ‘1991’ and titled ‘Ove’ on the reverse
Dimensions: 119.5 x 126.5 cm
Provenance: Private collection, Switzerland
Nunzio’s examination of materiality, space and light is also visible in this work, in which the matte black of the wood surface forms an exciting contrast to the heavy gray and sculptured lead.

Condition:

The wall object bears on the wood and especially on the lead short to longer scratches. The overall condition and impression are nonetheless good.

Nunzio di Stefano (b. 1954)

Nunzio Stefano was born in the province of L'Aquila. He completed his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome under Toti Scialoja in 1977 with a diploma in stage design. His first exhibition took place in 1981 in a Roman gallery, many more followed. At the Venice Biennale in 1986 he was winner of the Premio 2000 as the best young artists in the show, in 1998 Nunzio was awarded the Premio Presidente della Repubblica. Since 2008 he is a member of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca. Nunzio, who now lives and works in Rome, deals in his sculptural work with the formal possibilities of different materials such as wood, plaster and lead and explores their material and immaterial effect as related to light and space.
