The Heriz rug has its origins in the region around Heriz, a major center for carpet weaving in northwestern Iran. Depending on their town of manufacture, carpets of this type depict designs with a central medallion or an all-over pattern, as here. Warp and weft are made of cotton and the pile yarn from wool robust. Thus the Heriz is considered a very resistant carpet and very sought-after.


The carpet shows distinct signs of wear and a large thin and threadbare areas. Partially the colors are faded. The fringes with losses. The dimensions, without fringes, are circa 491 x 341 cm.
