The painting is in good condition consistent with the age slightly discolored and in the lower part with tiny craquelure. There is a larger mark beneath the horses and a concave bump at the right edge. Under UV light retouched spots can be seen mainly in the sky upper right. The frame shows usual signs of age and wear as well as small tears and small losses of color to the corners.Friedrich Josef Nicolai Heydendahl (1844-1906)
The German landscape painter Friedrich Josef Nicolai Heydendahl studied up from the beginning of the 1860s at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf. Later he went to London for a couple of years before he returned to his hometown. His son Ludwig August Heydendahl (1876 – c. 1960) followed him in his profession and focused on similar subjects as his farther who primarily painted winter landscapes, hunting scenes and motifs from the Thirty Years' War. The artist traveled to the Netherlands and to Norway which can be seen in his landscape paintings. (msc) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
